About Me

Hi there! I’m Catherine. I live in Philadelphia, where I cook budget-friendly recipes out of my tiny kitchen. My husband, Colin, is my main dinner date, taste tester, and dish washer.

Catherine in the Kitchen with a Coffee Mug

When we first got married, my husband was a full-time student, and we lived on my salary as a first-year teacher. We needed to live frugally, and one way we did this was to reduce our food expenses. We cut waaaay back on eating out, learned how to cook from scratch, and figured out strategies for spending a lot less at the grocery store. Our new habits not only helped us scrape a little bit of money into savings each month–they also gave us a passion for baking and cooking.

Here we are in the early days, learning how to make applesauce.

I’m here to show you that it’s totally possible to eat delicious meals every day of the week on a tight grocery budget. I believe that the best way to eat frugally is to cook homemade foods as much as possible. So many grocery store products can be made from scratch with simple ingredients for a fraction of the cost. Through my recipes, I’ll share with you what we’re actually eating in our everyday lives and how we’re saving money in the process.

When I’m not in the kitchen, you can find me teaching ESL (English as a Second Language) to 4th- and 5th-grade cuties, attempting to learn Spanish, playing the piano, trying out a new hiking trail, or planning my next travel adventure.

Thanks so much for stopping by! I’m so happy you’re here 🙂
